About Me

My background

I am originally from The west coast. I was placed in foster care when I was 6 months old, and was there until I aged out. There were some benefits, and there were some not so good things that happened. As a child of the system I was bounced from home to home until I finally aged out.  I was rarely in the same school for more than one school year throughout my entire education. However since our school system was so consistent I was able to obtain a good education. It was a struggle in school as a foster child. I had worn out clothes, shoes that didn't fit, and not much more than a bowl cut hairstyle. I didn't have the latest and greatest things. You can imagine how hard it was to make friends. But those were the things that drove me to succeed. That is where my drive comes from. I came from nothing, and understand what its like to benefit from an opportunity of getting a good education, and the programs out there to help educate our children. I am here to fight for the education of our children in a safe and intentional atmosphere free of politics, regardless of religion, race or orientation. Our school should be focused on STEM education so that our children have the educational tools they need to be successful for college or the workforce.

My top issues

1. Education First. We need to get back to focusing on the core education of our children. I want our teachers to have the authority to discipline children that are a disruption to the rest of the class.

2. We need to reform our Educator Compensation Plans. Our educators are leaving at an alarming rate. We need to develop a comp plan that entices new educators to this field, and keep the ones we have. That does not just mean money. It can be a combination of money, benefits, and empowerment. Educators currently have way to much stuff being shoved on them that they can not truly focus on what they are there to do. The day never ends for them when the last bell rings. I believe that there should be no discrimination of people for any reason. I also believe that we cannot let on disruption become a group disruption.

3. We must engage with the Parents and our Educators. We must work closely as a group and develop our children responsively. It is the Educators job to educate our children for the work place skills they will need. It is the Parents jobs to teach their Children the social skills, what is right, and wrong, and how we treat one another. But both the Educator and the Parents need to reinforce, and respect each others teachings. I would like to see some sort of Commission developed that consists of Educators, Parents, and Social workers. Together they will help guide and advise the Board as an advocate for the children.

4. CRT - This has been in the media for sometime now. While I think everyone appreciates and agrees that their has been racial inequality throughout our history, I do not believe this is a proper program in our schools. Our children's generation certainly had no responsibility for those inequalities. I do not believe that children especially in the K-5 grades would truly understand this. Furthermore, I believe that the teachings about people like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and the likes are very good educational material that segway's into the history of racism. I do believe that our children need to be taught about this stuff so that history does not repeat itself. Making them feel responsible for something that they had nothing to do with will never be successful.

My involvement

If your looking for a fighter in your corner that's me. I will fight for you. I will always listen, and always respond. The education of our children is one of the most important things in our future. I will investigate and research every concern you have and we will discuss the pros and cons together and find way to reach common ground. We will bring our advisories to the table to negotiate in the best interest of our children, and educators. We will follow the money and eliminate any waste, and focus on keeping our money local, and fund the programs that are needed on our schools for students that require special needs, and learning programs.  We will incorporate a forum for parents and educators to advise the board and help us work together to bridge the gaps. We will get back to preparing our kids for college and or the workforce.
